Ms. Doreen Mangrum, Site Administrator, Covenant House Academy - Grand Rapids
Doreen Mangrum has been an educator for the past 34 years. She comes to us with vast experience in working with at-risk students and students with special needs. Mrs. Mangrum was a Secondary Special Education Teacher for nine years, six of those in Baldwin Michigan and three years in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Since moving to Grand Rapids in 1991, Doreen has been a Special Education Director in the public schools. She has also provided services as Title III Director, Inclusion Consultant, Early Childhood Coordinator and Diversity Chairperson. After graduating from Western Michigan University with a BS in Special Education, Doreen married her husband in 1979. Since that time, she has received a Master’s degree from Central Michigan University in Learning Disabilities and a Master’s degree in Special Education Administration from Grand Valley State University.
Mrs. Mangrum was born in Detroit and raised in Southfield, Michigan. Doreen has two daughters. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family, yoga, meditation, reading and brain games.
Mrs. Mangrum is very honored and humbled to be a part of the “start-up” team for Covenant House Academy Grand Rapids. Doreen believes all students are unique individuals and all students can succeed. Each student, no matter their background or experiences are valuable members of our school community and we will do whatever it takes to break down barriers and provide opportunities for all to succeed.
