About our school

Covenant House Academy is an alternative charter school enrolling more than 1,000 students age 16-22, allowing them to complete their high school diploma. Covenant House Academy Grand Rapids is tuition free, offers two sessions, open-enrollment, and a student-centered environment that allows students to recover credits while developing the knowledge and life skills needed to succeed in life. By providing a safe, structured, self-paced learning environment with qualified, dedicated teachers, Covenant House Academy is helping students graduate from high school and pursue higher learning.

Meet Our Principal

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Markeith Large as the principal of Covenant House Academy- Grand Rapids.  Mr. Large was selected after an extensive search and screening process conducted by the administration, faculty, and our authorizer, GVSU. 

After graduating from Ottawa Hills H.S., Mr. Large attended Jackson State University where he also interned and taught in Jackson, Mississippi schools. He then returned to Grand Rapids where he taught and ran both after-school summer programs in GRPS. He earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. He worked in a local charter school where he rose through the ranks to become the principal of William C. Abney Academy.

In addition to Mr. Large's education and professional vitae, his talents and gifts are many including Public Speaking, acting, and Chocolate and Vanilla Productions INC. (Family Owned).

Mr. Markeith Large has the experience and education that we were looking for to lead Covenant House Academy- Grand Rapids.  He has a passion for young people, especially those who struggle with learning. He is a communicator who knows how to connect with young people, their families, and the school community. He is rooted in the Grand Rapids community and comes from a family of educators.

Mr. Large is very excited about the opportunity to serve students at Covenant House and pledges due diligence of effort to making a permanent and positive impact in our community.

We are confident that under Mr. Large's direction and leadership, Covenant House Academy Grand Rapids will continue to serve Grand Rapids most as-risk and fragile young people, helping them achieve their goal of earning a high school diploma.
